ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Seongjin Jeong explores new forms and narratives by fusing digital technology with traditional sculptural techniques. His work, which has developed around the concept of “part-ification,” features individual parts that connect through magnets to form a single figure. The parts can be moved around to create a different iteration each time, offering the viewer a variety of interpretive possibilities. This method of working reflects the complexity and indeterminacy of our world today, and evokes ever-changing identities and narratives. Jeong also reconstructs images consumed in the media environment into sculptures, contemplating how the function and form of sculpture might be expanded. The artist’s model of “part-ification,” in which numerous pieces come together to form a single whole, serves as a metaphor for a kind of identity that is constantly changing and reconfiguring.
