ABOUT THE ARTIST

Based in New Jersey, Bryan Roger treats themes of contemporary masculinity and queer identity. His work is characterized by its use of the male nude to explore the boundaries between nature and city. In particular, he uses the intertwining of plants and male bodies to express how queer identities are formed and manifested in public and private spaces. His landscapes feature patterns that are almost fabric-like in their intricacy, and they invite the viewer's gaze to move freely by declining to offer a fixed point of view. In Roger’s artistic landscape, psychological and emotional spaces are portrayed through vibrant colors and patterns in which queer characters are given free rein to live and express themselves.
