Untitled Art Fair Miami

At Untitled Art, Miami Beach 2024, Lazy Mike was honored to present the legacy of Latvian artist Auseklis Bauskenieks (1910–2007) to a wider international audience.

Auseklis Bauskenieks was a unique artist whose work is characterized by its pastel palette and pointillism, masterfully depicting the mise-en-scène of everyday life, time and society. Alongside meticulous portraiture, his works also contain depictions of unusual characters such as aliens, robots and giants. This opens up the artist’s inexhaustible fantasy and passion for developments in science and technology, science fiction and the world of the future. Through humor and irony, Baušķenieks depicts people and life events, Soviet society and the absurd nature of that regime, which was inconvenient for the then-ruling government. However, no matter how satirical his compositions may have seemed, the artist did not pass judgment or criticize others, instead creating an opportunity for viewers to identify themselves with one of these characters.

Lazy Mike booth were selected as one of the top booths at Untitled Miami 2024 by guest curators Kathy Huang and Jungmin Cho.
