The art of the Tvorogov Brothers uses the fairy tale as a motif to explore the relationship between reality and fiction. Working in mediums ranging from oil and acrylic painting to sculpture, the brothers draw on scenes from fairy tales to break away from traditional narrative-driven stories and develop a new artistic language.
The Tvorogov Brothers focus on commonplace themes, with a particular interest in genres typically associated with children, such as cartoons, animation, video games, illustrations, and puppet shows. These visual languages serve as the first tools that children use to learn about and understand the world before being socialized; they function as baking molds that shape the soft and pliable dough of young minds, forming their earliest worldviews. In this way, the Tvorogov Brothers make use of familiar characters to reflect contemporary society and humanity back onto themselves.
Viewers are invited not only to rearrange the paintings in their minds and cobble together amusing fables, but also to immerse themselves in each character's psyche and confront the realities of their own lives, enacting the Tvorogov Brothers dream of an aesthetics of the ordinary.
