ABOUT THE ARTIST
Taisiia Cherkasova is a visual artist from Ukraine, currently based in Paris, known for her use of mixed media, and complex textures and forms. She works primarily with wood, fiber, and ceramics to create hybrid sculptures, which eventually serve as supports for her paintings. Her pieces compose multi-layered narratives based on memory, personal experience, and symbolism, and she likens her working process to a journey of visual exploration that reveals itself gradually, as if through hypnosis. Cherkasova's attentiveness to transformation and identity draws primarily on Brutalism, to which she was exposed, growing up in a cold and industrial environment. She focuses on how people are transformed by inner conflicts and external environments, which appear as powerful symbols in her work, often combined with animal imagery to represent the wild and impulsive aspects of human instinct.
